It’s almost time…once more…On June 2nd, I and about 3000 other cyclists and roadies will begin our week-long journey down the coast of California, making our way from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
This is an epic journey in spandex that cannot possibly be adequately described. It must be experienced in order to truly understand what those of us who are veterans call “The Love Bubble”.
AIDS LifeCycle is the most successful charity bicycle ride to date. Each year it raises millions of dollars to fund the work done by the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation to help those already living with the disease, and to help prevent it from spreading further.
Each year, close to 3000 riders and roadies make the journey from the Cow Palace in San Francisco to the VA Center in Westwood in Los Angeles, experiencing a community and beautiful scenery like nothing else you’ve imagined.
Every rider must raise a minimum of $3,000 in order to participate (roadies are exempt from this fundraising requirement, but many still raise funds anyhow), and some manage to raise tens of thousands of dollars individually!
Your humble author hopes to raise $5,000 before June 1st. Every single penny raised is important and appreciated, so even if you can only afford $5, please do it! Don’t be embarrassed by the small amount. You’ve just provided condoms to several people. Or if you want to donate a larger amount but can’t afford a lump-sum, the donation system makes it easy to break it up into 10 manageable installments. Doesn’t $250 feel better than $25? And yet, you could probably manage $25 for 10 months.
Look, the point is to donate. It’s such a great cause. Why wouldn’t you want to help?
I will post pictures and updates of my experience on this journey here on the website, as well as on Facebook and Instagram. I hope you’ll subscribe to all our social outlets to get the full experience.
And maybe I’ll see YOU here next year!
